I’m Michael O’Connor and I’m running for Rotterdam Town Board as an independent on the No New Tax Party ballot line in the General Election on November 3, 2009.  I am also on the ballot in the Republican Primary Election on September 15, 2009.

My campaign is rooted in one simple truth.  I believe we deserve less.  LESS TAXES. 

As a nation, as a state, as a county, and certainly as a town, we are being grossly overtaxed.  I’ve had enough.  Have you?

There is a solution.  I’d like to be part of it.  The solution begins with making the difficult choices past administrations have failed to make.  We are beyond the point of being overburdened and especially in these difficult economic times, we need to swing the pendulum back the other way.  Let’s start by holding the line on ANY new taxes.  We need to cut more spending from our current budget too.

My philosophy is based on what I refer to as the ART of government:  
                                       Accountability

                                       Responsibility

                                       Transparency

These three concepts are integral to protecting, preserving, and enhancing our Quality of Life.

I’m not trying to reinvent the wheel.  I’m merely trying to put the wheel back on its axle.  I’m beholden to no one but the taxpayer.

I also have a vision for Rotterdam that I hope most residents share with me.  I’m a strong proponent of building and maintaining infrastructure.  I’m a strong proponent of proper comprehensive planning.  I’m a strong proponent of stricter code enforcement.   

I’m not a politician.  I’m just a concerned resident.  I certainly don’t claim to have all the answers but I do think I have something to contribute.  I look forward to listening to your views and invite you to contact me at rotterdamwindmill@yahoo.com.
